The City of Pitt Meadows has been granted power by the Province to regulate the use of land through the use of a Land Use Bylaw. The Council can establish regulations that specify the manner in which land and buildings can be used.
The City of Pitt Meadows is a zoned community which restricts certain land use to clearly defined areas of the community. Zoning is a way of regulating the use of land in terms of permitted uses, densities (a function of the size of that use), siting of buildings and building form.
Each property in Pitt Meadows has been assigned a specific zone which is described in the Zoning Bylaw No. 2505 [PDF - 1.1 MB]
What is Rezoning?
Rezoning means to change the land use on a specific property. Rezoning is used when a property owner wants to use his/her property for a use or density other than that which is permitted under the current land use designation. Land uses can only be changed by an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw, and a rezoning can only be made to a use that is consistent with the Official Community Plan.
It is essential that the City of Pitt Meadows thoroughly reviews the request for rezoning to confirm that the request for change is suitable for the community as a whole.
