The community of Pitt Meadows is a member municipality within Metro Vancouver (formerly the Greater Vancouver Regional District), and is just 45 minutes from the city of Vancouver. Vancouver is the largest metropolitan area in British Columbia (BC), the third largest in Canada and home to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The population of both the province of BC and Metro Vancouver are forecast to grow by approximately 35% by 2031 or by an average of 1.2% per year. Pitt Meadows' current population is approximately 17,000. The greatest population age range is 25-44 followed by 45-64. Pitt Meadows has a total labour force of 8,230 with the highest percentage employed in health care, retail trade and manufacturing (2001 Census).
With a temperate climate, affordable housing and an abundance of green space, Pitt Meadows is enjoying tremendous growth. Families and businesses alike are enjoying the unique combination of rural charm and urban allure that the community offers.
In November 2006, a citizen survey was conducted by Ipsos Reid, a leading marketing research firm. Results revealed that 98% of Pitt Meadows residents surveyed rated the quality of life in Pitt Meadows positively.
In response to regional growth, the province and regional authorities have initiated significant improvements in ground access that will create further opportunities for Pitt Meadows. The opening of the Golden Ears Bridge provides easy access over the Fraser River to communities in the south, the Trans-Canada Highway and four US border crossings; slated for completion in 2009 the new Pitt River Bridge will improve and increase the capacity for vehicle and marine traffic.
The new bridges combined with a regional airport, an intermodal yard, long-term plans for a port facility, available development land, 2010 Winter Olympics, affordability and high quality of life, position Pitt Meadows as an ideal location. Whether you're planning to live or work in the community or conduct business locally, regionally, nationally or globally, Pitt Meadows is the natural place to set-down your roots.
