Pitt Meadows Hires New Assistant Fire Chief
Pitt Meadows, BC: There were big boots to fill at Pitt Meadows Fire Department with the recent departure of Assistant Fire Chief, Don Jolley, but those boots have been filled. Chief Park was pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Rob Chatton to the position of Assistant Fire Chief/Training Officer for the 40 member volunteer fire department. Assistant Chief Don Jolley was recently selected as the new Deputy Fire Chief in Langley. Chief Park, said "In his seventeen years of service to the department, Don made significant contributions. We will miss him and wish him well". In commenting on the appointment, Chief Park mentioned that "there were several outstanding candidates for this position but Rob brought the strength in training that this department will require in the months and years ahead. "We have put him through his paces these last of couple of weeks with rainstorms, structure fires and snowfall; it has been a busy time for us". Chatton was eager and honoured to take on the new position. "The commitment of these guys and gals is amazing, I feel privileged to be working with such a group of dedicated professionals.” Chatton started November 27 as one of the departments two Assistant Fire Chiefs. Chatton was the Deputy Fire Chief for Shawnigan Lake, a position he held for the last twelve years. In his role there he provided recruit and first responder training between working as a Paramedic Level 1 and Associate Instructor with Emergency Response Team Training Inc. In addition to Duty Chief calls, Chatton will be responsible for Pitt Meadows Fire Department's rigorous training program, as well as, providing support to fire inspections and prevention initiatives. Rob will be doing a bit of back and forth to Island until he is joined in the new year by his wife and two boys. Rob is passionate about the fire service and keenly interested in working with the department and the District as a whole. "It is a very exciting move for me and my family. I look forward to being involved in this great community" added Chatton.
