CITIZENS GET CHANCE TO MEET BILLY T

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows B. C . - Billy T, the official BC Disability Games Mascot will be making his first public appearance during both communities "Spirit Week" celebrations. BC Disability Games and the 2010 Spirit Week organizers are looking forward to welcoming Billy T, the, 6 foot burgundy mascot, at the following events

Feb 12 at the Pitt Meadows City Hall 4:30 - 5:30 pm
Feb 14 at the Pitt Meadows Heritage Hall 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Feb 15 at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre 12:00 - 1:00 joined by the Olympic Mascots

Anita Perler, President, Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows 2009 BC Disability Games Board of Directors, is very pleased to announce the kick-off of the BC Disability Games occurring July 22 to July 26 2009.
"Hundreds of participants (athletes with disabilities, coaches, officials, and assistants) from all over British Columbia, will come together to participate in a multi-sport competitive event promoting and encouraging physical activity, individual achievement and awareness of abilities. This is our opportunity as a community to come together and celebrate the spirit, the courage, the determination and the achievement of these extraordinary athletes. It is these attributes which make the BC Disability Games such a remarkable event."

In 1992 the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows hosted the BC Disability Games with great success. Pitt Meadows Mayor Don MacLean and Maple Ridge's Mayor Ernie Daykin echoed the sentiments by adding "It is an honour to be hosting the Games again 17 years later. With the community pride that both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows upholds, we truly believe it will be a great success once more."

Citizens are being encouraged to join in "Celebrating the Spirit" of the 2009 BC Disability Games by registering to become a volunteer.

Plans are underway for a number of special events including the official countdown event to be held in both communities on Friday, April 17th. Events will include a torch parade between Pitt Meadows' Spirit Square and Maple Ridge's Memorial Peace Park with lots of fun family events. Community groups interested in having Billy T, the mascot, make an appearance at their community event can contact ljones@pittmeadows.bc.ca or visit the games website for a request form.
