PITT MEADOWS, B. C. – Due to a recent number of burning complaints from local area residents, Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service is once again reminding residents about the burning ban and burning regulations in place.

– Due to a recent number of burning complaints from local area residents, Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service is once again reminding residents about the burning ban and burning regulations in place.

The warm summer weather attracts people outside to enjoy many outdoor activities such as barbecuing and camp fires. However, before doing so, residents should be aware of their local burning regulations.

The Burning Regulation Bylaw No. 2406 has been in place since May of 2009. Section 5 of the Bylaw outlines general regulations concerning cooking fires. Under the Bylaw, cooking fires must be contained within a barbecue or fire pit having a surface area not greater than one (1) meter in diameter and using natural gas/propane or charcoal briquettes or within a manufactured gas/propane, electric/charcoal barbecue.

The burning of wood in backyard fire pits or wood burning cooking pits is not permitted at any time, anywhere in the City of Pitt Meadows.

This Bylaw will be strictly enforced, and may result in fines being imposed on those who choose to violate the provisions of this Bylaw. For a complete copy of Bylaw No. 2406, please visit www.pittmeadowsfire.com.

Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue would also like to notify residents of Agricultural Zone properties about the next burn season, which will begin October 1 thru to November 30, 2011. An authorized burn permit will be required. Burn permits will be issued for three days at a time at a cost of $100.00/permit. Permits will be available at Pitt Meadows Fire Hall 1 located at 19240 122A Ave, Pitt Meadows. #92488v3

Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service supports the City of Pitt Meadows Green initiatives, and the reduction of air pollution through the Province of BC's Air Action Plan. The City strives to make Pitt Meadows a cleaner and healthier place to be for all residents and visitors.
