EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS A FUN AFFAIR
Emergency Preparedness Fair to be held May 9 at Spirit Square
PITT MEADOWS, BC: The City of Pitt Meadows and the Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service will be hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Wednesday, May 9th from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm in Spirit Square at 12027 Harris Rd. In recognition of Emergency Preparedness Week May 6-12, the annual event includes emergency vehicles and personnel on site, interactive displays and take-home information encouraging families to prepare for major emergencies and know what to do if one occurs.
“We always have a great turnout at this event,” said City of Pitt Meadows Emergency Program Coordinator, Brad Perrie.
“The kids love to come and see the trucks and meet our local emergency personnel, but most importantly, this event gets people thinking and acting on having supplies on hand that they will need if an emergency or disaster were to happen.”
Event participants will include the Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service, BC Ambulance Service, Ridge Meadows Search & Rescue, City of Pitt Meadows Public Works and Emergency Operations Centre, CP Rail Police, Pitt Meadows Community Police, and Emergency Social Services.
The day's activities will include face painting, a colouring station and the chance to enter a colouring contest, interactive displays and an opportunity to explore some of the emergency vehicles. Children can pick up a passport to have stamped at each station, and enter completed passports into a draw. The Tim Horton's Community Cruiser will also be on site providing refreshments.
Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is an annual event that takes place each year during the first full week of May. This national event is coordinated by Public Safety Canada, in close collaboration with the provinces and territories and partners. For more information, visit www.getprepared.gc.ca.
