Golden Ears Business Centre Brings 250 Jobs to Pitt Meadows

Pitt Meadows, BC: In a presentation to City Council this week, Beau Jarvis and Dionne Delesalle of Onni Group outlined plans for the growth and expansion of the Golden Ears Business Centre and revealed some of the new, larger tenants, who are already bringing approximately 250 new jobs to Pitt Meadows in the first phase.

Council agreed that this was great news to kick-start 2013. Mayor Deb Walters noted, "Our Economic Development model is working and Council is very pleased with the new businesses being attracted to our community. In addition to the obvious tax benefits, our partnership with Onni is allowing more Pitt Meadows residents to work close to home and to spend less time commuting and more time with their families."

Onni officials stated that the Golden Ears Business Centre is currently the largest industrial development in Metro Vancouver with over 1.6 million buildable square feet on the site. The first building is almost 85% leased and represents another 50 jobs. The surrounding area, including the Golden Ears Bridge and Airport Way access roads, were planned to accommodate growth and traffic in the area specifically for business. This project reinforces Council's goals of creating jobs and lessening out-of-town commuting for residents.

Jarvis confirmed a number of new significant lease agreements within the Business Park, including a 110,000 sq ft lease with Eurorite Cabinets, the fifth largest lease of 2012 in BC and a 80,000 sq ft deal with Maurice Sports, the largest distributor of outdoor sporting goods in North America, representing 2012's tenth largest industrial lease in BC. Both agreements will bring close to 200 new jobs to Pitt Meadows and its neighboring communities.

Onni noted that the Golden Ears Business Centre is currently the most versatile centre in the Lower Mainland accommodating light industrial users looking for flexible space anywhere from 5,000 sq ft to 1,000,000 sq ft. in a regional market that has been identified as lacking industrial space.

"We have positioned ourselves well to not only benefit our residents with jobs but with the economic and tax benefits that development such as this creates. This is a win for our community and I am very pleased with the progress made to date", added Mayor Walters.
