STATEMENT FROM THE
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
PITT MEADOWS

In memory of Sandy Wakeling, Pitt Meadows 2013 Citizen of the Year

It is with extreme sadness that we have learned of the passing of a dedicated and passionate member of our community, Sandy Wakeling. For many years, Sandy has been a longtime volunteer, active community participant and valued Pitt Meadows resident. He has contributed to the Pitt Meadows Economic Development Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Pitt Meadows Official Community Plan Review Committee, the Pitt Meadows Day Organizing Committee, and many other groups and organizations in the community. This past Pitt Meadows Day, Sandy was aptly named our 2013 Citizen of the Year.

We want to recognize Sandy's contributions to his community and his country and express our gratitude for his efforts. Sandy was keenly interested in making Pitt Meadows a great place to live, and he was never afraid of getting his hands dirty to make that so. He could always be found at local events with his family, dressed for the occasion, whether it was Canada Day, Pitt Meadows Day or any other celebration. He was a friend to many, a supporter and a believer in building community.

On behalf of myself and Council, I would like to express our most sincere condolences to the Wakeling family, and hope that the many happy memories of Sandy will brighten this dark time for them. Their loss is also a great loss for Pitt Meadows.

Deb Walters, Mayor
City of Pitt Meadows
