PITT MEADOWS, PITT MEADOWS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND RCMP LAUNCH BUSINESS WATCH PROGRAM

PITT MEADOWS, B.C. This fall, Constables Doncaster and Condon, from the Pitt Meadows Community Police Office, will make personal visits to Pitt Meadows businesses to introduce and encourage businesses to register for the Business Watch program.

This fall, Constables Doncaster and Condon, from the Pitt Meadows Community Police Office, will make personal visits to Pitt Meadows businesses to introduce and encourage businesses to register for the Business Watch program.

Once the Pitt Meadows Community Police Office receives the completed Business Watch registration form from the business, the business will be provided with a Business Watch decal. The decal should be displayed on the business' front door to indicate that it is located within a Business Watch area.

The Business Watch program addresses the needs of the business community by providing a direct opportunity for the RCMP and Pitt Meadows businesses to work together to reduce crime and increase safety through prevention, sharing of information and education.

Mayor Walters applauds the initiative between the City, Pitt Meadows Economic Development, the RCMP and the business community. "We all want Pitt Meadows to remain a safe community. The Business Watch program is a step in the right direction."

Some of the benefits of the Business Watch program include the distribution of crime prevention material and tools, individual business problem solving, an electronic newsletter for the business community detailing recent crime and issues affecting business; and available upon request, free training available to owners and employees on safety, security, and business related crime, and a free security assessment for Pitt Meadows businesses. In the near future, the RCMP will have the ability to distribute crime alerts to businesses registered in the Business Watch program.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP are encouraging all business to take an active part in the program and watching for and reporting crime or suspicious behavior in their business areas. "With the launch of the Business Watch Program, the City, Pitt Meadows Economic Development and the RCMP have enhanced their already strong relationship and making Pitt Meadows even safer for all. We cannot keep the community safe on our own. Community safety is a shared responsibility," states Dave Walsh, Superintendent, Ridge Meadows RCMP.
