PITT MEADOWS FIRE & RESCUE – 2014 HOT SUMMER NIGHTS PROGRAM
PITT MEADOWS, B.C. – The Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service will once again be hosting its annual Hot Summer Nights program this summer. During the evenings in July and August, the Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service will be visiting neighbourhoods throughout the community.
This service is a fire prevention initiative that showcases Pitt Meadows Fire Rescue Service firefighters and their equipment in a fun, informal environment. Most often the public sees fire crews when they are busy at an emergency scene; thus they are unapproachable. This program allows the public to see its Fire and Rescue Service in a different light and provides the public with an opportunity to interact with their local firefighters.
At a Hot Summer Nights event, people will be able to ask the crew questions, seek advice on summer and fire safety, check out the fire trucks and equipment, get wet with the giant sprinkler, have fun and learn something new.
This program also allows firefighters to educate the public about summer fire safety; and to remind the public to be safe during the summer and use common sense to prevent fire hazards from becoming fire incidents. One of the more common summer hazards is barbequing.
Barbequing is one of the most popular ways to cook food. But, it also poses a huge fire risk. It is important to always barbeque with safety in mind. Keep barbeques a safe distance away from anything combustible (home, deck railings, out from under eaves and overhanging branches). And always keep propane tanks stored outdoors. Keep children and pets away from barbeques and finally, never leave your barbeque unattended.
Please note that reservations will be done by request on a first-come-first service basis and that very inclement weather or emergency calls may impact Fire Department attendance at your event. To book your hot summer nights event, visit the Pitt Meadows Fire Rescue Services website at http://www.pittmeadowsfire.com/event-booking, contact the department by phone at (604) 465-2401, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
