Doug was first elected to Council in 2005. Born in Vancouver, he grew up in New Westminster where he experienced his first taste of politics when he was elected student council president of his high school. Doug graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1977.  He moved to Pitt Meadows in 1980 with his wife Helen and established the community's first dental office and together they have raised three sons: Jeremy, Graham and Eric.

Doug has served on many boards and committees for his profession such as College Council, Economics Committee, Dental Employee Benefits Committee, and MLA and MP liaison for the B. C. Dental Association. Doug's volunteer activities in our community include twice serving on Committees to review the Official Community Plan in 1997-99 and 2005, and the Board of Tourism Pitt Meadows in 1999.
