The City of Pitt Meadows is now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the following Council-appointed Committees:
Rail Community Advisory Committee – Two (2) Year Appointment
The purpose of the Rail Community Advisory Committee is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP Railway) and the City of Pitt Meadows (City). The Committee will provide recommendations to CP Rail and the City on specific issues as required. The committee will also assist in the resolution of issues between CP Rail and the community. Letters of interest are being sought for the following volunteer positions:
- Three (3) members representing the community at large residing in Pitt Meadows to begin June 2017 for a two (2) year term, to expire June 2019.
Applicants should include an indication of why the candidate wishes to serve, along with their community involvement background, if any.
Airport Advisory Committee – Three (3) Year Appointment
The Pitt Meadows Airport Advisory is made up of community and airport representatives to advise Council on the impact of the airport on the community. The committee is comprised of eight members with equal representation between those with air service knowledge and other residential or business perspectives. The committee meets quarterly at a minimum, during evening times.
The Airport Advisory Committee requires two new members for consideration of three year appointments by Council:
- 1 member with air service knowledge
- 1 member with community residential or business perspective
Board of Variance –Three (3) Year Appointment
The Board of Variance is a legislated required body to review requests to vary the City’s Zoning Bylaw where compliance would cause a hardship. The committee is comprised of 3 members and only meets as required.
The Board of Variance requires three new members for consideration of three year appointments by Council.
Active Transportation Committee – One (1) and Two (2) Year Appointments
The Active Transportation Advisory Committee advises Council and staff on strategic priorities and policies relating to active transportation in Pitt Meadows using the Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan as a guide.
The Active Transportation Committee requires new members for consideration of appointment by Council:
- Members of the public who have an interest and experience in active transportation topics.
The Committee meets on the second Monday of the month at 7pm. Meetings are held quarterly at a minimum, with more meetings as deemed necessary.
Advisory Design Panel – Two (2) Year Appointment
The Advisory Design Panel advises Council in assessing the design and construction merits and quality of plans submitted in conjunction with rezoning, development permit and other land use applications. The committee is comprised of nine members and meets during daytime/business hours throughout the year, as required.
The Advisory Design Panel requires four new members for consideration of two year appointments by Council:
- A professional or member of the public who is familiar with design standards relating to accessibility.
- A professional or member of the public who possess knowledge of green building practices, energy efficiency or sustainability.
- A member from the development community.
- A member of the public at large.
Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness – One (1) and Two (2) Year Appointments
The Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness (MACAI) is joint committee between Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows that advises each of the Councils on community challenges and opportunities towards increased accessibility and inclusiveness. The committee is comprised of 17-23 members from Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and various stakeholders. The committee meets at minimum five times a year during daytime/business hours.
MACAI requires up to five new Pitt Meadows members for consideration of either one or two year appointments by Council:
- One member representing Pitt Meadows youth
- One to four members at large from Pitt Meadows
While a professional background or work experience in a related field would be an asset, Council is interested in hearing from all persons who have a broad understanding of Pitt Meadows and a sincere interest in maintaining its unique character.
