Due to Pitt Meadows' geographical location, drainage is a major undertaking in our community. The City utilizes many complex systems for preventing flooding, such as catch basins, pipes, culverts, flood boxes and pumping stations to pump rain and snow melt from residential and rural areas.

The drainage utility is made up of two parts:

• A utility charge based on assessed value of the property; and
• A levy, which is either a flat rate for residential properties or a charge per area for rural and commercial properties

The drainage utility was the result of an extensive study and consultative process in 2007 and 2008, and it addresses funding for the various types of drainage systems that provide protection to people and property during periods of heavy rainfall or snow melt.
