Garbage & Recycling
As part of Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Challenge, our goal is to increase our rate of diverting garbage from landfills to 70% by 2015. To do this, the City is working to support recycling initiatives and reduce waste.
Did you know that every time a load of garbage contains recycling, the entire load is hit with a 50% surcharge at the landfill? All recyclables are banned from landfills in B.C., and these extra fees end up being paid by taxpayers. Those recyclables you throw in your trash are costing not only you, but all Pitt Meadows residents.
What's allowed?
Residents are allowed one bag or bin of trash with each weekly garbage pickup, but recycling is unlimited.
Check the Metro Vancouver Recycling Directory to find the nearest depot to take other types of recycling.
Not sure what is recyclable and how to separate everything? Check the Residential Recycling Guide ,or pick one up at City Hall, or visit the Garbage & Recycling Services page on our website.
