Coastal Fire Prohibits All Open Fires as of July 6, 2017

July 5, 2017

Effective Thursday, July 6th at noon, the Coastal Fire Centre’s ban will be extended to include all campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre.  The Coastal Fire Centre includes all of Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, Sea to Sky area, Sunshine Coast, Central Coast and Haida Gwaii. The ban includes the following:

  • Campfires
  • Category 2 open fires (banned since June 7)
  • Category 3 open fires
  • Fires burning woody debris in outdoor stoves
  • The use of tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrel or burning cages of any size or description (please note that these items are ALWAYS banned in Pitt Meadows)
  • The use of binary exploding targets

It does not include properly rated cooking stoves which use gas, propane or briquettes.  The BC Wildfire Service has complete details of the ban.

While Pitt Meadows’ spring burning season is now over, this is an important reminder that should any illegal burning occur while this ban is in effect, the fines levied for illegal burning will be substantial
