Update on Gas Leak on Harris Road between Ford Rd & 122A Ave

UPDATE 4:30PM: The ruptured gas line has been contained. Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service has completed their work and Fortis BC are conducting cleanup of the area. Evacuated residents will be allowed back to their homes shortly.

Harris Road has been reopened in both directions but is single lane traffic both ways between 122A and Ford Road. Please follow directions of flag and traffic controllers in the area until cleanup is complete.


At 12:05pm, a Shaw Cable contractor hit a gas line on Harris Road between Ford Road and 122A Avenue. The City's Emergency Operations Centre has been activated and Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue and Fortis BC are on the scene. Currently Harris Road between Ford Road and 122A Avenue are closed. Buses have been rerouted down 191B. 

There is no immediate danger to residents at this time, but updates will be posted as they are available. Alternatively, visit the City's Facebook or Twitter for updates.

Estimated Time of Repair
Crews are working to repair the ruptured gas line but at this time the expected time for this to be done is 5pm. 

Rush hour traffic will be affected and residents are asked to avoid the area and follow the traffic detours posted below.

The Pitt Meadows Centre (7Eleven mall) and four residences on the east side of Harris Road have been evacuated and further evacuations are being assessed if needed.  

PLEASE NOTE Group fitness classes in the multipurpose room at the Rec Centre tonight have been cancelled, as Emergency Social Services is using the Multipurpose Room as a reception centre for evacuees.
